Leo Carrillo Beach

Located in Malibu, Leo Carrillo Beach and state park are a little out of the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. This beautiful beach has most likely been used in more movies than any other in Los Angeles. It is a great waterfront destination and an excellent camping area close to Los Angeles.

Leo Carrillo Beach is suggested for families since it is excellent for swimming (with extreme caution), beachcombing, windsurfing, surfing and more. There are rocky areas as well which have tide pools and caves. We suggest having beach shoes handy for those with tender feet. During low tide these are great for viewing a good variety of marine life. Grey whales may be seen migrating in April and May heading north. Dolphins and Sea Lions are also in the area creating a perfect atmosphere for family beach vacations or day trips.

Leo Carillo Beach is a dog friendly beach! This is one of the very few if not the only beach in Los Angeles to allow dogs to enjoy the beach as much as us humans. Dogs on a leash are allowed north of lifeguard tower # 3 and day use areas. As per park regulations.

Malibu surfing is popular

There is camping at the Leo Carrillo State Park and reservations are suggested well before peak season. It is recommended to book in December to camp in June! If you will be camping at the State Park you will also want to take advantage of the back country hiking trails.

Since Leo Carrillo Beach is a beautiful and secluded waterfront destination, we suggest packing a nice picnic lunch and plenty to of water to drink. This Los Angeles beach is one of the best for just relaxing, romantic walks, great sunsets and quality family time.
