Itacaré or Itacare beaches are some of the most pristine beaches in Brazil! Itacare is a small town in the state of Bahia in Brazil. Dutch and Portuguese pirates made this beautiful area their place of hiding during its early colonial days.
A sleepy fishing village a number of years ago, Itacare has become a town which depends mostly upon tourism. Itacare beaches offer some of the best surfing in Brazil. The surrounding area is also great for hiking and ecotourism. Praia da Concha is the most popular beach in town and where most of the hotels or pousadas are located.
This spot is great evening location to meet up with friends to listen to music and dance during the summer season. This sleepy little resort town is flooded with revelers during New Year's and Carnival.
Its surrounding area has beautiful, small, cove type beaches and other picturesque beaches that other Brazilian towns can only dream of.
The coastline near Itacaré is a series of beaches and hills with beautiful palms and tropical forest. The region is a perfect setting for
eco-adventures white-water rafting, biking, kayaking.
Itacaré is on the edge of the
Atlantic Rainforest Reserve , now designated a World Biosphere Reserve, which contains a large number of highly endangered species as these wonderful little creatures, the Golden Lion Tamarin and the Marmoset! It is one of the last large expanses of Atlantic rain forest left in Brazil.
South of the main village are a host of smaller, secluded beaches, each, separated from the next by steep hills and rocks. You may get to these Itacare beaches by hiking from the trail head down to the ocean.
Most trails are short and enjoyable 20-45 min. walks and you will be pleased with practically unspoiled beaches enveloped in lush Atlantic rainforest. Past Ribeira beach, the first of the more rugged Itacare beaches begin.
Besides more than 20 beaches, Itacare has rivers and waterfalls.
